This is a NJ weekend. Attended a cousins get-together earlier in the
evening in NJ and I’ve just returned home after driving a cousin to her home two towns away from me here in PA.
Tomorrow I’m back there again to take my mother to dinner. I really had a very nice time this evening with wonderful
company and yet I know that to socialize has never really been my thing. It took me decades to figure out that I can
never get any artwork done when I’m in a social mode. It’s odd but true that I need to be completely alone
to focus on my artwork and I do still need the art to save me. But the gas is cheaper in NJ and they pump it for you.

Took time away from the sculpture
to begin another pastel, which will eventually be framed, but decided to enter two other recent works in a local juried show
with nature as it’s theme. It’s been a really long time since I’ve entered my work in any juried show.
I guess I’m starting to think about showing my work again. It really is so much easier to just put it here and
not have to deal with manually transporting it and then awaiting a juror’s decision
Both pieces were accepted, but another unpleasant memory of local shows surfaced, when I went looking
for my work at the artists’ reception and found both hung together in the darkest spot in the exhibition space.
It was impossible to see any of the luminosity of the pastels in that shadowed location. There was literally no natural
or artificial light at this spot and with both hung side by side, it’s hard to not wonder what the hanging committee
was thinking.
So continue to check out my work here, where
you’ll find the two-dimensional work photographed in natural light to preserve color and luminosity.
Some of you may remember that I sent JPG updates on my sculpture
while I was working on the church commission. I do intend to eventually email photos of this sculpture, but it needs
much more work before I do.

Returned from a short trip to Syracuse, NY for my aunt’s funeral.
My mother went with me, since this was her older sister, and she wanted to be there. I had reservations about taking
a ninety year old on such a long trip, but she was fine. However, I don’t see her ever returning there again or
traveling any long distance again.
