I thought I could be here this time, but I can't. I'm heading
west on a mini road trip!

The birds, a female and a male, nesting inside the bottom of the hanging basket
are winter wrens. It was fascinating to watch them coming and going while it was snowing early last week. I haven’t
seen them since I returned from a short trip, but I’ve been busy – unfortunately, not working on the sculpture.
Shortly before leaving on the trip, I discovered a “bubble” on the conjunctiva on my right eye.
It’s under the upper eyelid and I’m not sure how long it’s been there; since, it doesn’t hurt nor
interfere with my vision. I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for when I returned, since I had to take my almost
ninety year old, still independent mother to her doctor’s appointment a state away. So, I saw the eye doctor yesterday
and it seems that I can let it dissipate on it’s own – in four to six weeks.
This is the second time
in less than a year that I’ve had an eye/eye area problem when I was on my way to visit my mother. The last time
a wasp sting in the corner of my left eye became infected while visiting her. That took an antibiotic course to
resolve and I had no residual problems, so I’m not anticipating any problems with this eye cyst.
We’ve
had the inauguration and I’m pleased with what I hope will be a new era of integrity and help for the middle class.
The “greed is good” era that became the national obsession since Reagan was so wearing on one’s soul.
If I began writing about my opposition to the Iraq war and my exasperation with the fiscal irresponsibility of the
previous administration, it would sidetrack me even more from my work. Suffice it to say that I’ve been so waiting
for this “new day”! However I don’t see President Obama as the “messiah”.
I see him as a smart, hard-working man, who will do his best to take our country on a better path.

Why do I sidetrack so much when I know that I should be working on the sculpture?
A small bird has made a nest inside the soil and moss filled bottom of a coated-wire hanging basket that is suspended from
the soffit above the bow window by my computer table. I’m watching it come and go - seemingly unaffected by the
sub-freezing temperature. Somewhere I have the North American Birds handbook and I have to look up this little guy.

Most in my family are deliriously happy with their team "the Eagles"
winning yesterday. The sports super appreciation gene missed me. But having inadvertently hit the station broadcasting
the game on my car radio, I actually heard part of the third quarter and later - by choice - the final three minutes of the
fourth. It astounded me to realize that I actually understood what the excitement was and even more so, that I knew
what they were talking about when discussing the plays. When did that happen?

Back to the sculpture, but ran out of armature wire and am having a hard
time trying to find a wire clothes hanger anywhere in my house. When did I replace them all with plastic?

I spent most of yesterday - right into today - working on this website.
It took forever, but I figured out how to set up a gallery of large size photos that one can click forward or backward through.
Was much easier than I thought with the tools here - but very labor and time intensive. Too bad there's no option
that let's it go forward automatically.
